Day 13: Who/What Inspires Me
There are different people and things that inspire me in different facets.
Music inspires me. I hear it, I feel it and I dance to it. The latter is the important part. Music inspires me to dance. It inspires me to create.
My students inspire to keep going when times get rough. Sometimes we all question ourselves and sometimes wonder if we are doing the right thing. When I'm thinking, "should I really be a teacher and performer? Am I good enough or my I just kidding myself?" I go to class, and see my students and how they are working hard. It bring me joy and then I know I am doing the right thing. Just yesterday, a student nearly had me tear up (I don't usually get teary over sentimental stuff) when she spoke about how much the studio means to her. That's why I do it.
There are belly dancers who inspire me, but I'd rather talk about another contemporary dancer who inspires me. Pamela Debiase. She knew from young that she wanted to be a professional dancer, and despite all the obstacles and hardships she has faced, her sheer determination got her through. She now lives in Los Angeles, has her own Pilates Studio and freelancers for dance companies. Through all her experiences (some good, some bad) she has remained focussed and a nice person.
She inspires me to keep focussed on what I want and work for it, and to try to be a genuine, nice person in everything you do and encounter (that's actually quite hard sometimes).
