My Nemesis

We all have that one thing we struggle with and just can't seem to get right. It may be a move, a style or a prop, but you fight with it and no matter how much better you get at it, you still hate it.

I'm not a fan of dancing with the veil. I can watch other people do beautiful things with it, but it does nothing for me when I dance with it. So if I have a dislike relationship with a veil, you can only imagine how I feel about double veil.

Perhaps it's because I was never really taught double veil. I was handed 2 veils and told, "this is how you hold it and now you must dance this choreography". Although I coped with the choreography, it was more of a pain in the bum than a joy. I didn't touch it again until the beginning of this year. Disaster! I was constantly getting tangled and it was untucking and I couldn't join them again, I couldn't get inside them... - still to this day I'm fighting with them.

Sometimes we just have face our nemesis head on, so I've decided to choreograph not only a veil choreography, but a mixed level veil/double veil choreography. What am I doing?! The veil part is easy. I've got a large portion of it done already. The double veil is not so easy. Everything I'm trying to do should work ... in theory ... and I'm sure Melanie could do it if I told her what to do, but I'm struggling.

I'm either going to come out of this exercise having improved and have my feelings move from hate to like (or maybe just dislike), or I'm going to vow to never dance double veil again.
